Westview students love AR. The Accelerated Reader Program is designed to encourage students to read by awarding points based on correct answers on comprehension tests. Westview has over 6,000 tests and more to come. There is something for every level of reader.
The Kindergarten reads and takes tests as a whole class. In grades 1-5, the students chose AR books to read on their level as determined by the STAR test. Many times a student may want to read a book that is too hard for them because everyone else is reading that book. The Harry Potter books, for example, are written on a sixth grade level and are not appropriate for most students to be spending so much time dragging through. There are many excellent books on all levels.
The Westview AR test lists are now on the website. There is a list arranged by book title and a list arranged by author. Just click the one you want on the right.
Once a student has read a book, then he/she takes the test on the computer. According to the number of correct answers, points are given. Each grade level gives rewards to the students meeting their goal each quarter.
Some teachers have a required number of points for each quarter as part of the reading grade. Check with your child's teacher if you are not sure if there is a requirement.
The more you read the better reader you become. Keep Reading!
